Pedro del Rio Zañartu visited Turkey twice, in 1881 and in 1904. In both journeys, he acquired pieces of art and cultural objects like these scissors.
At the end of the Ottoman Empire (1299-1923), one of the uses of these long and beautiful scissors was to cut the paper for practicing Islamic calligraphy. Calligraphers used pens, inkwells, ink, paper and other tools like scissors, which show us the process of preparing writing materials.
The tools for Islamic art are highly valued for their sacred expression, where a pair of scissors is an example of how a calligraphy instrument can become a work of art in itself.
