These daggers, known as keris (also known as kris or kalis) are curled or straight. This example has a damask blade (caused by the alloy of cast metals, which are also observed in the katanas and Japanese knives), a carved handle placed on a dagger and a case or scabbard. Keris, considered to be both weapons and a symbol of spiritual power, are found exclusively on the Southeast Asian Archipelago, expanding with Majapahit kingdom (12th-16th centuries), mainly through Indonesia and Malaysia, as well Thailand, Brunei, Singapore and the Southern Philippines, and can still be found today. They were used for battle, as well as ceremonies and rituals.
