The jian sword or double-edged straight sword is one of the oldest traditional Chinese weapons used in combat and adopted as training method for martial arts like Kung Fu and Tai Chi.
Martial arts or wushu is not only a way of improving health, character and skill, but its long association with dancing has also given it an enriching artistic quality.
In the case of double swords, the deep sense of harmony and coordination between left and right hands and ying yang makes these swords a symbol of traditional culture that is still in practice by men and women in China and in the world. This set of double-edged straight swords, shuang jian, are stored in a
single wooden sheath with applications of bronze and tortoiseshell. The swords’ pommels and sheath have designs of bats and other auspicious symbols of
good fortune.
