These embossed bracelets are decorated with Indian or Chines (Peranakan) style designs inspired by models from the 8th-12th centuries, and a makara or dragon head with pieces of metal that make a sound. This type of bracelet is known in India as kada (jhanjhan in Java) and have been a fundamental accessory of women’s wardrobe for a long time. They would have been introduced to Indonesia in the 10th century during the Indo-Javanese Period. These bracelets’ sound symbolizes a woman’s charm and grace.
